I've had this painting in mind since the last time I floated the Smith River, a spectacular 5-day trip that's grueling enough that very few get to experience. (One mid-June trip I experienced the coldest spell of my life!) Like many an adventure, this Missouri River journey starts and ends in rather boring cow pastures. But in between, the unfolding of wonders like 1200-foot cliffs is quite astonishing! If you ever get the chance to go, don't pass it up. And that goes for most adventure!
