Living Hopes
From the Body Psalms, a series of short films to re-evaluate the body in a capitalist world, I quite love the way the text unfolds on the bodies we see in these films. This is a snippet of poetry by the 16th century female Hindi poet Mirabai. Here a number of aesthetic delights combine; feminine beauty, calligraphy, jewelry, lovely skin, gentle dance, powerful music, a mystical message, etc. Even the script morphs from Hindi into English in a subtle way. I think that while our minds can understand the concept suggested well enough, our bodies are what find such profound loveliness in fearless sensuous celebration. If we keep our eyes sharp they can be found all around us. Maybe the reason we don't see angels everywhere, is that they're so common!
